We use the soft wash method exclusively on roofs. Low pressure plus biodegradable cleaning solutions, soaps and surfactants kill the algae, lichen and moss at the root. This is the only roof-cleaning method recommended by the American Roof Manufacturers Association (ARMA). Pressure washing a roof is irreversible damage — it strips granules and can force a full replacement — so we never do it.

Cedar shake takes longer than shingle because the wood is cleaned, washed, then treated with a conditioner that neutralizes the cleaning solution and protects the grain.
